There are variations on the NPT hole in the water pump and both are acceptable.  Some factory cars had a 3/4" NPT reducer to adapt the 1/2" NPT bypass fitting.  More on this in the new 4th edition Z28 book out soon,

Sorry to resurrect an old old thread. Was the reducing bushing in the top of the water pump the hex head type, or a face bushing? Face bushing = threads only, no hex drive.
Using the hex bushing seem to raise the outlet ell a little to high to meet the intake fitting.

The "O"'s in the engine date/code appear to be different. One is wider than the other.

No, not always.

Would two separate gang dies be used, at times? For instance, someone at the front of the engine to stamp the block, and someone at the back to stamp the trans.? If so, did they have a separate source of individual dies for changing the VIN numbers?

The reason I ask is that I'm seeing a discrepancy between one of the digits - block to trans.

Just checked the tech article by JohnZ on Camaro assembly process, and yes, they were both stamped at the same time with the same stamp.
That does raise some questions with me about the VIN stamp.

And

Am I seeing things, or is there a "ghost" image of a "18" directly to the left of the VIN stamp? On a slightly downward angle.

A friend of mine is somewhat interested in this 68Z on ebay, and has asked for me for some input.

I'm looking for opinions in the deck stampings on the engine.
There is, obviously, a discrepancy in the assembly date on the pad - Nov. 29 (11/29/67), and the casting date on the block - Dec.22 (L 22 7).
The pad numbers don't really look fake to me, but I'm not an expert on pad stampings.

The heads are dated Sept.15 (I 15 7)
Intake - Oct. 4 (10 4 67)
Trans - Dec. 5 (T 05)

Everything seems to line up with a 12B car, except the block casting.

Is it possible, or is there any noted instance of, a block date being mis-cast. so to speak? Doesn't seem like it would be hard to mistake an "L" for an "I".

I actually still have one of those from 1969. Medium blue w/Camaro emblem. I had my sister sew a "Chevrolet" emblem on the stripey side.

On a car that came with gauges, there should be a warning light in the dash cluster that says "FUEL". This was for the low fuel warning system.

Fisher, Chevy only painted the front fenders hood, and upper and lower valances, basically the stuff forward of the firewall, Fisher painted everything else.

Just from looking at the pictures in this thread, it's hard to tell if the cowl was painted before, or after the firewall blackout. I'm assuming Fischer did the blackout.

In the most recent resto of my 68Z (late 90's) the most accurate info for the cowl paint was that it was pretty much the entire cowl section that was painted stripe color. That's the way I did it, at the time. Others have said that it was masked off so that only the area under the cowl panel was painted.
I have a NOR car, and the pictures of the cars here pretty much confirm that I'm in the ballpark, as far as paint coverage.
