Restoration / BB Valve Covers
« on: February 17, 2015, 06:20:52 PM »
The valve covers on my car are incorrect and want to get new ones from Cranes Corvettes.
Their site is a little confusing.....
They list 2 part numbers for a Copo Camaro....

V68-9P=BB CHROME VETTE AND PASS. FULL SIZE, + L-89, L-88 CORVETTE, C.O.P.O & L-89 CAMARO ALL-NICKEY AND BILL THOMAS, MOTION CHEVELLE.

V68-9CP==#5 ABOVE IN PHOTO ON RIGHT=BB CHROME CAMARO , W/ TALL BENT BRKT MOVED TO FORWARD LOCATION .USED ON ALL C.O.P.O & L-89 CAMAROS/CHEVELLES/NOVA-NICKEY AND BILL THOMAS, CHEVELLE, CAMARO/NOVA.

Here is the web page  http://www.cranescorvette.com/big_block_427_valve_covers_corvette_camaro.htm

Any thoughts as to which ones are the ones I need? Thanks all

Thanks! I have a confession to make....I am 100% a car guy....if they were cool - I like them...regardless of make. But I have mostly Mopars.....I know them inside out and am totally comfortable with them. I have judged them, both restored and survivors....most recent - I was at the Chicago show judging them a few months ago. I have written technical articles for magazines over the past few years as well...all Mopar stuff.  I have had a few Chev's over the years...as well as other makes. I like to dive deep into the technical side and learn all I can of whatever it is I have. I must say, the group here at CRG is top notch, friendly and ready and happy to pass on knowledge.....I have always been that way as well.....you know....with that other brand...Lol! Thanks Again!

What does the seller mean by "has the correct notches around it " ?
I believe the seller is referring to the "snout" area of the pulley is distorted on original 824BV pulleys caused by the reinforcement on the backside being pressed into place and leaving the snout "notched" (IIR octagonal) instead of round (cylindrical), because of 8 swedged places that distort the snout area. Not all GM pulleys have this feature, but a real 824 does and experience tells me that is about the "going" price for the real deal.
I got the pulley yesterday - and indeed, you were spot on the characteristics you described. The snout is octagonal. Still fairly round....but you can definitely see the "flats". And guess what? Having the proper pulley cured the fan belt misalignment I had with the pulley that was on it. I'm happy it wasn't because of the water pump shaft. My new problem is the incorrect pulley was a bigger diameter than the BV....and now my fan belt is too long.....no big deal, picking up a new belt today. Thanks again!

Didnīt need to train my seal at all, just turn it inside out from how itīs delivered and mount it correctly and voilā! :)
I trained my seal to spin balls on its nose and to honk horns.  :^)

You must have lots of spare time.
Nah - just lots of spare corny jokes!  Is there a correct seal being made?

Yes - Sold new in Toronto. I'll try and convert the GM Canada doc to a jpeg.
Talked to a few previous owners....still trying to get hold of the original owner.
Here are a couple of pics. The one in the snow is the car arriving at my place.
I need to straighten out a few detail items.....it is an older resto with some Eastwood paint instead of plating etc.
I have the proper tires on order....should be here soon.
Everything matches....no issues there. Most of the other stuff, so far, looks correct.
Has some great options.....especially the RS and the Endura bumper.
I'll post some more pics later on as well.  :)

Hi All - tried searching. Is there a thread with some good shots of an engine compartment. A great survivor or a correct restored would work.  :)

Not sure either....as I don't see them in any of his pics. I do remember seeing pulleys that had "ridges" around them. I guess when I have it in my hand I will be better able to see the entire thing.
