The rack on that 67 does not look like the one that I have seen.

So.....if the luggage rack was an optional dealer installed option, was any provision made by GM to stop the trunk lid from slamming down on you (due to the increased weight)?

The installation instructions might have advised re-setting the torsion rods in the last notch to counteract the added weight, but I've never seen the instructions.

Maybe a short 2x4 or broom handle was included with the rack, for when you actually had it loaded down and wanted to get into the trunk.  ;D I think there was a red card that came with the kit, probably a warning or caution card.

As I recall the red card basically said check your state and local regulations about having a rack.  This was more in terms of how much of a load you could have and how the dimensions of the rack/load could extend to or beyond the fenders.
Never had one on a Camaro, but I can tell you the racks were a royal pain on little English sports cars back in the day, even with a small suitcase...  :(  :-[  :-\

Here's a rack mounted on a 69 Firebird that's on ebay. A different design from the others.

The 67, 68, and 69 Camaro Acessories Brochures all show verticle bars, not horizonal, like the picture Marty posted above.  Not sure how much that proves about the original accessory.  There are actually several sites selling the horizonal bar racks like the one Kurt posted.  67conv6cyl, which one is yours and do you know if it is original?

Were there two different design trunk lid torsion bars, one thicker than the other (to accomodate a heavier load)?  I always thought there was only one, and you used the different notches to offset the heavier weight caused by the optional spoiler.

tom

If you ordered the spoiler package on a 69 one torsion bar was a thicker diameter than the other.  I believe the same was true for a 68.

The rack that is on the 68 sales brochure is the one that I wanted to install,  I believe that's the same one used in 67.

I think it´s a very cool option with luggage racks! Everything that´s unusual are cool things....
Hereé another pics of that "original" rack:
