suade paint on rear window trim

I am ready to finish the painting on my 68 Z28 and have had conflicting information on what area around the rear window gets the suede paint like the top of the dash. Can anyone tell me it all the trim under the rear window, corners and metal below the sail panel all get this paint or just some of it. If not what gloss level should these parts be? Thanks for helping.  I want this car to go the Camaro Nationals and don't want to have to re do this.

The only part that gets suede finish is the top of the dash. The rest of the interior gets a satin finish.

I believe the metal area around the lower rear window area was painted the same time the dash was and is also suede finish, seen it on more than a handful of original cars.

Here is  DG interior 69 Z28, zoom in and look at the aera where the light is reflecting, suede finish. When I looked at this car this area matched the dash to a "T", wish now I had better pictures.

So should I paint all the metal showing around the package tray with the suede paint?

John's photo of his survivor in the link I posted above is not suede, nor were cars I've yanked apart over the years. If the black trim in Mike's photo is indeed suede, it may be an anomaly.

Scoop, I just recently cleaned the two inside corner pcs. (same as whats shown in post #4) and they were just painted black on our 68 01B Camaro.

Don't examine 43 year old paint and plating and assume that's how it looked new. The paint charts state these areas were painted with suede. Here's my comment from Dec 2010:


Suede deteriorates over time; 40 years is a lot of it. I had rattle cans of it mixed locally and recall spraying a portion of the dash on a parts car. It was a perfect match-to the area under the dash pad. Exposed areas of the same surface were weathered and looked smoother.

Being a painter I'm aware of paint deterioration. But John's photo shows zero evidence of a suede finish. After adding DX1999 and flattening agent his should not look as it does.

I don't know where I was when I posted this. After all the hoopla I went thru to find the correct answer I posted the obvious wrong answer. The paint charts I found included the detail of what got the suede.

I looked at two very original 69 cars last Saturday. Both untouched black interiors,and norwood cars, 1 built 02A, 1 built 02C. Both cars had suede finish to rear trim pieces, screw heads painted, and matched the dash upper panel. I could not get good pictures at night. George
