Heater Core R & R 69 Z/28

Any hints, tips, comments, suggestion or advice related to replacing the leaking heater core in our 69 Z.  Best place to get one or are the all the same and what other parts are required.

You will need to loosten the fender and put a piece of wood in there to allow your hand to reach the fasteners that hold the heater core box to the firewall. Not a fun project I can assure you. I had the radiator shop pressure test the new core & reinforce my hose connections before I installed it because you don't want them to break off later.

The difficult "loosen the fender" trick isn't necessary to replace the core, but it is to replace the blower motor or to remove the blower housing.

I didn't know about 69's but the 68's I've had I did from the inside.

How do you get the heater core box fasteners off? They do not have heads on the inside of the vehicle. They are pressed in studs. You have to get to the nuts on the front of the firewall to get the box off unless you are lucky enough that the previous owner changed the studs for bolts and captive nuts.

you take the nuts off on the engine side. you can get to all of them without removing the fender. flush it with clran water before you take it out, antifreeze on the carpet is bad,

If you have the original Harrison core, don't replace it. Just take it to a radiator shop and they will repair and test it.

If you are still looking to get that repaired try Mac's in Bellflower 562 920 1871, They still do "old style" work as requested, R & Repair & R your original core for $200.
