Just preparing everything I need to put my '68 back together again.

According to the AIM, the inside heater box used the dash mat as the seal to the inside of the firewall. Also according to the AIM, the outside heater box cover used a sealing compound to the engine-side firewall.
I have seen gasket sets (available through the normal vendors) that  provide gasket seals for both these applications. Are these gasket sets correct? (Should I be using them?)
If sealer/caulking  is correct, what would be an appropriate sealer to use?  Black silicon...??? Body caulking? Could someone recommend a product please.
Thanks!!

No separate gaskets were used originally. Black RTV is a good substitute for the bead of sealer used on the heater blower case groove.

I used electrical putty (Dum-Dum) rolled out in a bead to seal the outer cover.  I used the putty (used for sealing wires piercing house walls and sold in lowes, Home depot) in a LOT of places, kick panels, rear bumper mounts, tinnerman nuts, cowl squirter seal, etc.

Thanks John and Kevin.

I like the idea of using the Dum-Dum as it stays pliable. That's very handy if (for whatever reason) you needed to remove the cover.

..or body sealer listed on page 167 (B-11608) It's what I used to seal my heater box cover and a bunch of other things.

I like the Electrical putty because its a dark charcoal, the strip caulk you can get in stores is a beige.  AMK wants a $30 min order last I looked + ship.  HD or Lowes is a lot cheaper (under $10 I think) and I am there a lot anyway :)
