So then is my water pump not original to my car? Oct 68 10B car

Engine assy V0912DZ; block cast I 10 8

Water pump: Casting #3953692; Date I 23 8

If not, the existence of this pump on the car as a replacement is an incredible coincidence. It could not have been installed with this date intentionally, since it has been with the car since long before any knowledge of date codes etc. existed. It's been on the car since at least 1982 when I bought it. But maybe so, since the clutch fan has been replaced, which it would seem would coincide with a water pump replacement.

Correct, not original.  The coolant pump must have a casting date before (can it be the same date guys?   ??? ) the engine assembly date to be original to the car.

Jimmy, the coolant pump is the one of the few parts on my car (besides maintenance items) that had been replaced when I purchased it in 1980.     :)

It's amazing that it is dated within 2 weeks of being not only the correct casting # but the correct date code, totally at random.

...an additional data point - although the 327 in my '69 RS is not the original engine to my car, it is an original '69 Camaro engine.  When I pulled it out of the donor car, it still had the original #3953692 water pump installed.  I have had the water pump rebuilt and it is still on the engine to this day.

The engine cast date is:  J 31 8 (OCTOBER 31, 1968); the water pump cast date is K 8 8 (November 8, 1968).  The engine was assembled in Flint on Nov 22, 1968.

Yes, mine is much the same. Starter not original, water pump and clutch fan not original. But original carb, alternator, distributor, power steering setup; have original fuel pump; Still has the original chrome ball on Hurst shifter, although most of the Chrome is gone.
when I first got the car, I was looking for the 90 degree rubber elbow that goes from the air cleaner to the LH valve cover. (previous owner had installed "racing air cleaner") Man at the parts store said "Good Luck Charlie"; Went home and found it in the trunk. It's been a lot of fun for a long time!!

Jimmy, the good news is it's a pretty easy coolant pump to find!  Heartbeat City has a ton of them in stock...
