1969 Z/28 heater hose bracket

Do all the 69 Z/'s have the bracket that bolts to the top of the alternator for the 2 heater hoses? I saw 2 survivor 69 Z/s that did not have them and my 1969 SS nova small block survivor does not either. I don't think the brackets were just left off or missing because the hole in the alternator bracket was not cut by the screw/bolt threads.  Thanks,  Sam

Not all of them have it... The Early car I am doing now has never had the threads cut in the alt bracket for the clip either...

My original 02D Norwood Z/28 has the bracket.

My 5A Norwood, 28K mile Z does not have the bracket. No threads cut in top alt. bracket either.

Small-blocks that did not get the metal bracket received a black vinyl ty-wrap [also used on RS hoses] to contain the hoses and alternator harness. Excellent photo in the August 1969 Road Test magazine.

Thanks guys! Seems like the couple early Z's I saw don't have the hose bracket. I guess hit and miss like some other little things in the old days.  Sam

It's hit or miss... the Jan 69 Hot Rod mag test car is a very early Z and it has the bracket.

For the cars that did have the heater hose bracket on the alt bracket, does it attach with a single bolt from the top or a stud of some type using a washer and nut?
The FAM shows a washer and nut to a stud which sticks up from the underside of the alt bracket. I've always thought it was a single bolt attached from the top, no washer no nut. If it is a stud, is that actually a bolt threaded from the underside of the bracket?

It's a 3/8" hex indented-head self-tapping screw; no stud.

After consulting with Larry Christensen (well known 1st Gen Camaro restoration specialist), the self-tapping "RBW" 1/4-20 x 1/2" self-tapping screw is a common screw for this application, and considered correct for judging purposes.  A very close RBW screw alternative is available from Paragon Corvette Reproductions, Kit #11189K, for about $5.  The screws in this kit are not self tapping but a good alternative.

JohnZ...is your original screw for this application still on your 69?

Does anyone else out there have a survivor 69 with the original screw or wire tie strap still intact?  If so, please post a picture and let use know the build date and VIN on your car, to give us an idea on the assembly time frame of your car. 

Many cars have this original screw missing or replaced due to the frequency of removal for belt and/or alternator replacements over the years, or due to the threads in the bracket becoming striped.
