68 bumper jack

I have several hooks in my box. Two I think are like your shorter one, 7 3/8" long. The nut I bet is standard across alot of cars. I have several the same but different spot welds to hold the nut on. One has 4 to hit the corners of the nut. The others have 8; 4 to hit the nut corners and 4 along the flat edges of the nut. Maybe used to place the nut? One has LO stamped on the back too.

I'm almost thinking ignorence was better than bliss.  5 pages and it doesn't seem we have come to any real consensus?  So Paul, do we think maybe, the Zs came with the square jack?  Or LA Zs or LA cars?

Funny you should mention that...

Take a look at the trunk photos of this one owner Los Angeles built '68 Z/28 in this Ebay listing.  What do you see in the trunk?  Yes, it's a "square" jack!!

Yes, I do have Norwood cars in the database with square jacks (as well as trapezoidal jacks), but to be honest, does this prove anything? Jacks are so easily changed.

I was looking at the '68 AIM last night.  UPC 10, Sheet A2 (Spare Tire & Jack Stowage) list four different part numbers for the jack assembly (column and base)!!  Here they are as listed in the AIM...

Why are there four different jack assemblies??     

Interestingly, the AIM only lists one part number (3919088) for the load rest (the AIM calls it the BRACKET ASM.) for all four jacks!

That's because there were four different jack suppliers; the column and base were considered an "assembly" (although they were two different parts), and were to be used "in sets" (that note was omitted from the '68 AIM, but is shown in the '69 AIM). There was only one "bracket" that grabbed the bumper, and it fit all four jacks.

Just amazes me that they would have had different "styles" that did not interchange with the bases.  Seems that would be a mess on the line-unless they were "packaged" as a set in the bins.  That makes sence in my twisted mind!  Looks like we'll have to settle on EITHER as being correct unless Kurt has something up his sleeve!

I don't believe there were multiple styles of jacks. Every 68 jack I've seen has been the triangular style (not the square) like stovebolt's, Ed's, and jack #2. Not to say there couldn't be different versions, but I've never seen them.

There were multiple suppliers of the base, so there's many versions of that. But I'm not convinced the jack had multiple suppliers and, if there were, they would all be the same style (i.e. triangular) to fit the base.
