They got rivets, not sure if they are real, what does the backside look like? The packaging looks too new to be the old style with rivets.

I have a pair of original riveted ones. I think the pattern is different in the old ones vs the newer ones.

i didnt recieve them yet, the one in the package is suppose to have rivits also.  did  GM sell over the counter rivited sill plates that differed  from the ones which came on the cars back in 69?   and even if they do differ alittle they still have to be better then repops  NO?   they are already bought, just wondering if I got lucky or what?

Man, your lucky you saw them first cuz I would have snached them right out of your hands!!!!
Wrapper is dated May 5 1978 and I'm pretty sure they stopped with the rivets by then but post some pic's when you get them - I hope their the real deal!!!!

I had figured out the change once, but it's fuzzy now. I think that about 72 or 73 they stopped using the rivets. Should be the same timing for the service parts.

Here's a question, were the rivets black or bare steel (or aluminum) when they were freshly installed?

They were bare...

I just checked the original ones in my '68 Z/28.  Here's the results...

Left side = black rivets
Right side = bare rivets

I've seen them both ways too but I just always thought 1 was a repop.  Paul-Can you post a pic of each side?  What's the build date of your car?  Maybe they changed from bare to black or vise-versa somewhere along the line???

Anyone got the repops with the rivets?  Who made them (MFG) and what do you think of them?  Post pics if you can.  I need to get a set and I know there's a few companies making them and want to the "better" set.  I have to to dig out my originals and see what they look like now....Dam it, was trying to avoid that!!!!!!

70lt1z28-sorry if I just hi-jacked this thread!!!!

thats fine, love to read and learn .  I will post pics when I get the ones I bought on ebay. It just hard to believe that they would be gm with rivits, who knows?????????

My photo files are too large to post on this forum, even with the smallest image size setting on my camera.     :(

Paul, save the image to your desktop, right click/open with/Microsoft office picture manager.  You can resize by clicking picture/resize.  Choose predefined size & web large.  then just save as a different name & upload!!!  Or just use photobucket.com & copy the IMG link it gives you.

Those sill plates are still available from GM. The package looks almost new and if both of the packages come open I would be a little suspicious. There is a site that details how to add rivets to the sill plates.

GM sells the plates for about $58.00 each.

I have a set of the reproduction sill plates that classic sells. They look good but are really not correct.
