buildsheet locations

a guy I know of just found a buildsheet on his gas tank on a 69 red red small  block, its a 327 or 350 engine car, documentation was and is not a big deal to this guy, but it was on the tank. What are the rules on where they could be again?
i am now tempted to go check my tank. I thought the tank was not a place to look on a camaro.

It probably was a 69 LA car. Those are the only ones that probably have sheets.
