Opinions needed please. Could a 1969 Z28 with a final assembly date of 02D on the trim tag possibly have an engine with a date code stamp of V0227DZ or is that just too close to be considered the original engine for the car ? There is no partial vin on the engine date code stamp and I can't make it out the casting surface near the oil filter ?

The 02d is a projected date. You would need to get the NCRS report to see when the car was completed. Create shadows when trying to read the vin stamped in the casting....Joe

"with a final assembly date of 02D on the trim tag "

I was under the impression that the Final Release -Shipper- Date is found via a NCRS

02D is not the final assembly date. That's the body build start date.

02D at Norwood spans nearly three weeks of production; February 19-March 14. VINs approximately N601539-614579.  There was no 02C or 03A. Approximately half of the VIN range were built in March.

Staring around VIN N608xxx, the db has several 02D Z/28s with V0227DZ engines.
