I am trying to find the correct paint colors for the inside and outside of my recently acquired SS wheels before I restore them. I believe there are three colors total with some kind of dark gray on the backside but it it a dark or light gray and does anyone have a paint number.  Does the front have black inserts or is it a dark gray which I have seen in some after market catologues.  Is the rest of the front besides the insert a basic argent silver that is mostly covered by the trim ring?  Any help would be greatly appreciated as there doesn't seem to be much info on this subject. The wheels will be blasted and primed before I begin.  Also does anyone have any experience with stencil kits for this kind of thing?

Looks like you did not receive any replies to your N66 wheel inquiry. A search of the site for answers to the N66 wheel colors question did not prove fruitful.

Does anyone have input or, better yet , pictures, of a factory finished N66 "SS" wheel, or a link to this information?

I believe the 5 raised "spokes' portion of the wheel was argent silver, and the "pie shaped" recessed sections (with the small slots and the holes for the wheel studs) was painted a shade of gray. Confirmation or correction to this statement would be helpful.

Any help is appreciated.

Here are a couple pictures of mine. I will see if I can get a closer pic.

Beautiful car!  Thanks for the reply. I found this image of what looks to be a correct, vintage, N66.

If you are trying be correct, remember that they were not a full year option. I think they were discontinued around Jan 69.

Kelly,
I believe you are correct as Jerry's book has SS wheels were availble from Sept. 1968 to Jan. 1969. Mine is a Nov. 1968 build that included the SS style wheels. The paint color appendix for the correct component color and plating chart in the back does not indicate the SS style wheel colors only the Rally style wheels.

The N66 option would have been available from Aug 1968 thru Jan 8, 1969 at which time it was canciled. This option was not available the entire month of Jan. Any cars built beyond this 1/8/69 date did not have this wheel as a factory option.

Anyone have additional pictures of N66 "SS" wheels as originally released production from the factory ?

Trying to obtain evidence or documentation of the correct factory paint colors for the wheel.

Repros are available, but the " slice of pie " shaped sections of the wheel on these repros are painted black, which I believe is not accurate to what was originally done at the factory.

Jerry's 4th Edition page 179 shows the wheel,  but the pictures are black and whites.

Camaroon, Here is a link to a good discusion on wheel paint."http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=208828"
I bought "Details Insert Grey" from Ground Up that I felt was a good match for the inserts. The silver for the outer face was not a good match so I went with the Krylon paint as mentioned. The back side and the inner part of the wheel gets painted in a dove grey. I also bought the stencil kit but found it easier to use 1/4" masking tape.
Attached is a picture of an original wheel from a 29 mile 70 Chevelle and my finished wheel. George

Thanks George, the pics are worth 1000 words. The pie shaped "pockets" are certainly not black.
Here's a few more pics I've found....

Those look exactly like the ones that came on a 69 Pontiac Grand Prix Model J I once owned.

Common topic at Team Chevelle as these wheels are more common on those cars.

Does anyone have documentation stating that they were discontinued?
The assem manual lists changes to the N66 package much later (mid summer) in production?
