Do saginaw 4 eed where painted ?

Restoring my french L30M20  i have removed engine and gear box.
I would like to kjow if the saginaw cast iron gearbox were factory painted ?

To my knowledge no paint.  But others may disagree.  I am going off what I have seen out in the wild.

I have never seen one painted. A friend of mine was the original owner....on hers...no paint.

I do not believe the Saginaw M20 was painted.  My car has been in the family since 1970 and is completely original.  I will check in the next few days to confirm.

After cleaning, i don't see any trace of paint on the saginaw casing ,just some orange on the clutch bell ,
