1969 ZL1 - # 55

The dual flag emblem over the front side marker lamps just doesn't do it for me.  Its part of the cars heritage - I know, but ehhhhh.

Easiest place to install them after build.

Yeah - but all the other ZL1's I've seen don't have this emblem.  Really looks like its "stuck on".  Just looks out of place.  Just my 2 cents.

$45K in 1983, that might as well have been $450K! that was a lot of money in the day, half the price of the average house, and you could have picked a dozen nice Z-28's for that money back then.

Yep, $45,000 seems pretty accessible by today's standards (not that I have a spare $45K sitting around in my bank account).

$45K in 1983 is around $135K in today's money.  So, it was a lot of money.  I don't know a single person who is in a position to spend $135K on a classic car today (maybe I have the wrong circle of friends and family).  There are a lot of those folks out there, but it's still a fairly exclusive group -- those that can drop $135K on classic car.  So, it would have been similar in 1983 -- not a lot of people with that kind of cash to drop on a classic car.

And, for my money, I'd never buy a car that I couldn't/wouldn't drive (not that I have to make that decision on my own).  Cool car.  Nice museum piece.  Not my kind of thing, though.

Average median house was $75,000 in 1983 but we were coming out of a recession and interest rates were over 13%.
Great price on what we know today but at that time period it was not an easy sale.

in the old articles of ZL-1 #55  it had rally wheels and white wall tires to go along with the dealer added rally stripes and 427 emblems

That car is absolutely beautiful!  Many years ago there were standing offers of one million $.  Can't imagine what it's worth today.

Board description is wrong as it doesn't have deluxe interior. Board will get corrected. I have never owned it. My understanding is the service manager kept the orig. block. When Dave C owned it we took delivery of the block at the Supercar Reunion. The block has been built into a complete engine but not in the car. I remember being told the emblems and stripes were added to try to sell it when new. Amazing car that drove like a new car when I last drove it years ago.

As I recall, the block was found when they were cleaning out the dealership, under a bench. IIRC, there were actually two ZL1 blocks found at the dealership then. The other was a service block.

A little off topic, but ZL1 related.  I know William was watching, but did anyone else watch the ZL1 tribute auction on Bring a Trailer that ended yesterday?  Nice car but $130K plus fees?  I was dumbfounded.
