Mild 305 engine. Performer intake, headers, mild camshaft, Holley 600 vac secondaries,
TH 400 transmission.Overall it runs good. The problem I'm having is going from
idle to wot and back to idle as quickly as possible in gear the engine stalls. I'm
Completely stumped. Any advice much appreciated. Forgot to mention the secondaries
are wired closed, only front half of carburetor is functioning.

Check the carb to intake manifold for slight vacuum leak.

If you don't find a vac. leak try richening the idle mixture adjustment.

Accelerator pump maybe.

HustleRussell

Thanks for the replies. I've sprayed starting fluid around carburetor and intake, no change in rpm.
I've adjusted idle mixture for maximum vacuum of 17hg at 950 rpm.
Accelerator pump is working as it should, tried squirters from 25 to 40, has no effect on stall.
Currently using a 31 squirter. I did notice something I thought was odd, holding engine speed at 3000 rpm fuel is just starting to drip from the main boosters. Shouldn't the main metering circuit be fully engaged at a lower rpm. I believe it's still pulling fuel from the transfer slots?

Engine stalling from operating conditions you describe does not sound unusual. Likely stall only occurs when the car is at rest or moving slowly. Many engines have a vacuum device that slows the carburetor returning to idle to prevent stalling. When the car is at driving speeds the transmission will keep the engine turning over and keep it from stalling.

Why????

HustleRussell

I thought it would be easier to tune the main metering, accelerator pump
and power circuits if the secondaries were not functioning.

Have you checked the float level? Remove sight plugs, bump the fender. Should get very small splash of gas.

HustleRussell

Float levels are set as tinkker description.
