I was bead blasting my 12 bolt 4:10 rear end I had bought a few years ago and noticed grinding marks once the old paint was blasted off, it's not original to my car however I will be using it and just wondering if the factory did that?, are they original stampings?, also you can see the "E" stamped twice.

uscrichter can you post a photo of your stamp.?

Pacecar

If it was a late build rear axle, then it might have been stamped originally CBV and the factory would have ground off the C

cook_dw

Haven't seen a ground off C.  More like a peened C.

Here is the stamp in question

Same date as my BE rear.  That grinding looks like someone tried to clean off rust to read the stamp vs anything the factory might have done.  If the factory did it, it would be very intentional to eliminate worn numbers IMO

Casting date?   Stamp appears legit.
