These wheels were a topic of forum discussion some 20 years ago.
I don't know of any other original early 14x7's to compare too. Never heard of another like this.....
I personally think the dealer did it, but that doesn't explain the wheel color.

Not to piggyback but that was my first thought.  Also reason I asked wheel color thinking maybe they had a Cortez silver base wheel'd car and swapped it but that's stretch..  Regardless crazy cool wheel center.  I'd guess there won't be another with any paperwork like these.

Some  14x7 Rally Wheels around the same date as these would answer if they were available.

Still looking for a Rally Wheel 69 SS 09B car or a  14x7 rally wheel dated that early.

I was thinking to myself.... where did I see this years ago?
Thanks Kurt. I remember the photo from 2000 and Steve's ownership. Early 350 hp car with chambered exh.
speaking of Steves ownership I see the 14-15kmile RSSS 350 AC coupe owned by Rick George also is coming to auction.

I'd put my $ on owner modified.   If Chevy delivered a car to me like that with caps like that, they'd either have to replace them with correct, OR put some 'tire cutters' on them like the 007 Aston Martin from the old movie... :)

Those centers protrude beyond the tire/wheels around an inch (guesstimate from the photos)...

Then how do you explain the correct dated XT rims not being painted body color and Rally Wheels on the window sticker ?

Charley do you have any other window stickers for a 69 SS with Rally wheel option?
If so are the ECL codes the same?

Is this a possible spot that were 2 errors in trying to attach (drilling holes) the centers to the cap?

It just seems so odd that they didnt have YJ rallys at that early point in production. You would think they would have slapped some 68 rallys on it. August dated XTs are hard to find and I would think they are possibly what came on it. Then maybe this was the fix by the dealer to get the rally wheel look to satisfy the customer.
I dont think I have seen any YJ rallys earlier than Oct 1968
