68 L78 Lifter Valley Splash Shield

Did the L78 in 68 have an oil splash tray/baffle in the lifter valley? I purchased one from Heartbeat, of which they state is an "original GM part" (?) and there are interference issues with the bottom of the 069 intake.
Anybody have a pic of an original one, or had a similar experience such as this?

069 intakes did not have an extra splash shield.  At least none of the ones I have seen.

i've used them under 163 intakes. where is the interference on the 069 intake?

I believe the ZL1's had the shield 3931093, so it is an original GM H.D. part.

The valley pan used on the ZL1 is NOT the same part HBC sells. Here's an original (see below) 3931093, which was discontinued in 1990 and replaced by 14096974, which is the one HBC sells. the 14096974 pan was used on the 1990's 454 Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) engines found on trucks, and is not even close to being correct for a ZL1, which is probably why it doesn't fit. There's also the 12555320 shield, used on I believe the 502 (?). You can get this one from GM or SUMMIT RACING, JEGS (although they show the CORRECT 3931093), EBAY, etc... but it's not even close either.

But getting back to the OP's original question:

The answer to that is no. And other than the 1969 ZL1, NO 1960's Chevrolet production engine (big block OR small block) ever had a valley pan from the factory.

What's really strange is that HBC shows TWO valley pans (see below). The top one is the 14096974, but the bottom one is the (later issue) 3931093 like JEGS shows!

The 3931093 hasn't been available for 27 years, so which one did HBC send you Rod? (I'm assuming the top one)

Actually, you were correct the first time Bob. The 3931093 IS an original GM part. But the one HBC sells, while also being an original GM part, isn't original for the 1960's!

The one I had I purchased about 5 years ago from HBC- I got another one from them and it fits perfectly.
In reference to the two shown in the pic, I believe the lower one is the one which actually fits.
Didn't get a good look at it before I gave it to my engine guy.
