Hi All,

I am currently restoring an early 67 car that is in a really bad way, I am in England so finding parts is a challenge !

The front suspension/Chassis is out and has been fully disassembled and blasted and now its all painted I am fitting it all back together. I also did the front bumper mounts that bolt to the chassis and it is here I am having a problem.

The bumper brackets bolt to the chassis, at the end closest to the suspension there is a J nut that fits in a square hole in the chassis, I have one J nut, the other is missing.

I would like to find another so I can get both sides the same, I am re-using as many of the nuts and bolts as I can and I am blasting and Parkerising as  I need them.

Below is a picture of the restored bolt and washer and the one J nut I have.

Can anyone advise me where to get another ? does anyone have a spare J nut I can buy  ?

Here's an old thread, I don't believe AMK had the correct one, nor do I think any of the big parts vendors carry them.  Not enough early 67s around to warrant the cost of reproducing I would assume.

You'll most likely have to come up with some substitution.  It's one of those parts made of Unobtainium.

Hi Pete,

That's annoying ! I hate to have different fasteners on either side.

My best hope is one of the Camaro breakers or restorers have one they will sell me.  Or someone who has removed the bumpers and has a spare in a pot of odds and sods.

Is that a 3/8" bolt? I might have one of those J nuts.

I am pretty sure it is !  I am used to working in metric but looking at it and holding the rule to it and it seems to be 3/8.

If you have got one like I have pictured I would love to buy it off you, I can pay via paypal if you have that or what ever works for you.

Pop a pic up of what you have !

Thanks,

Paul

I am still wanting one J nut.

In other news, this car is an early January 67 car from Van Nuys, I seem to have a chassis with no bumper bolt access hole in the driver side but one in the passenger side as well as the slots for the J nuts.

Here, have a picture.

You may have seen this, your car info may be desired to add to their research data.  November-December was thought to be the timeframe for the mixed usage of subframe components - same time they were switching over to frames with the holes.  My 11/15 build LOS has no holes.

I was kind of hoping they would notice this topic,  I can send any interested parties the Vin if they want to cross check it.

I measured the J nut I need, it seems to be a 1/2 inch bolt that goes into it.

Still need this J nut, I really don't want to do it different either side although that was good enough for GM back in Early 67 !

Yeah, that 1/2 sounds closer to the size I remember.  3/8 seemed a little small for a bumper bracket bolt.  You'll most likely have to some up with an alternative.

I will find one...   I tend to be quite determined when I have something that is hard to find.   I am not bothered if it costs me to find one, I want it right.

The AMK is no longer available, been that status for a long time.

Here's a "close but no cigar" 7/16 j-nut set on eBay.  Seems no one makes these in 1/2-13 any longer:

Still looking for one 67 Camaro 1/2 13nc J nut.

I thought I had found one in a breakers yard but they sent me a 7/16 and that will not work with my original bolt.

Its silly but I don't want to be forced to use 3 original bolts and one different smaller one, I want all 4 to match (and the bolts do) but I have no J nut to install.

Anyone got one ?  just one !

The AMK link above came up blank by the way, thanks for suggesting it though.

Paul, I called AMK. there is a delay on the B-14004 1/2-13 J nut. They will have them again in 2 to 3 months.
