Rear axle code

I have a 69 RS/SS that I am trying to decode. It is a 350 4 speed car but has a 10 bolt rear axle. The 1st question is didn't all SS"s have the 12 bolt?
The code on the tube is JA G043 1. I can't find anything in the codes that comes close and that's the only number on the housing. Anybody have any clues?

No, not all 1969 SS 350's came with a 12 bolt (read NOTE 9 for more info). But in your case, if the car originally came with the L48 engine and a manual transmission, it would have had a 12 bolt from the factory.

However, JA G 043 1 is a 1973 or 1974 Nova 2.73 non-posi axle, or a 1975 Nova 2.56 non-posi axle assembled the 43rd day of the year at the Detroit gear and axle plant (day shift), so it's not original to your car.

Thanks!
One turned the car upside down but haven't found a build sheet. How can I find out what rear axle code should be there?

Without paperwork there's no way to know.

What's your VIN? (post a picture of your trim tag and engine pad as well)

If it's in the database, we may have more info on the car.

The block is probably from the same donor as the rear axle.

Didn't look like this came through so I sent it again.

CJD=1971 350 270hp 4 bbl. TH350 12th day of August Build.Tonawanda Engine plant N.Y. Engine was used in Chevelle, Camaro, Nova and Passenger cars.
I'll ad that your VIN is 3661 after my 3E car, which in another post I point  out it must have left plant after the 7th of April as it has components dated April 7th.

Congrats - a real find, regardless of the engine that's in it. Tag looks like an untouched original -

How's the rest of the car ? Your header pic looks like a pretty decent Z10.

Regards (and welcome to the site),
Steve

Always good to see a new Z10 show up. :)
Do you know where the car came from (state or dealer)?
AC or console?

I picked up the car about 16 years ago in Cottonwood, AZ. It's an Az car as far as I know, don't know what deal ship it came from but live to know. I've not done much to it other than drive and enjoy it. It has A/C and a counsel. Has the standard interior in white. Body is straight and solid. I replaced the headliner and the 2 front bucket because of tears in the material. You all have been very informative.
Thanks!

It'll have to be tomorrow when the car comes back from my buddies house. Don't worry, I'm holding his '41 Hudson pickup ransom.😄

Here it is flipped around and enhanced a little for better viewing...VIN looks a little funny? Danny

Here's the picture of the engine bay you asked for.
