I was going to ask this in Chick's thread but I didnt want to change the subject.  Does anyone know of any LOS cars that came with a Muncie but did not have the "Muncie hole" in the  firewall?

tmodel66

Don't think it would be possible. That was a prerequisite to have the Muncie. It had to be punched when the firewall was pressed.

I have learned to never say never.  My 68 Z does not have the hole drilled in the firewall.  I am just curious if this is just a goof on the assy line or if there were more early 68 or 67s that this has been seen on in the past.  I am actually on my iPhone or I would post a pic.

If LOS cars were excluded it would be mentioned here under transmissions (a couple of paragraphs down);

Do you have any paper work with your car? The reason I ask is are you sure it was a 4 speed from the factory?

The engine is long gone but I have known about this car since I was old enough to understand cars and my father knew of it since '75.  This car has been apart and stationary since '81-'82.  I have no doubts the car is in fact a real deal Z.

Is the transmission original to the car? If so which side of the transmission does the cable fasten to? Is there a hole in the tunnel for the cable clip to fasten the cable with? I don't know about this. I've never saw one like yours.

No Daniel, Darrell's car has no holes or clips in the tunnel area for the speedo.

That is correct.  Thanks Chick.  Yes this car is overall strange.  Cowl plenum air cleaner, deluxe interior but no tach & gauges or a console and manual steer..

What's the trans codes and the axle code?

Is there a plug where the NON-MUNCIE hole is?

Also, can you post a picture of the tire pressure decal on the inside of the glove box?

If the car was built with a Muncie, it had to have the Muncie hole drilled by the wiper motor; there was no speedo cable in the plant long enough to route from the standard non-Muncie speedo cable hole (which was in all firewalls and got a plastic plug on a Muncie car) over to the passenger side Muncie speedo cable connection.
