My original plastic dash gauge bezel has the chrome trim rings ...the chrome is faded and worn however there are no cracks or scratches in bezel.
I have heard that the aftermarket chrome stick on pieces don't work well....does anybody have experience with them or should I buy a new aftermarket complete bezel?
I can't seem to find a good original one that is crack free.

I used Testors chrome spray and it works very good. Mask the exposed edges and put on thin coats.

Thanks....I will try that first!

I used the chrome appliques the Camaro houses are selling. I'm not excited with the results. They are a little wider than the original surface and the longevity of the adhesive is suspect, just sitting on the dining room table for a couple weeks they started lifting. I have old bezel maybe I'll try the testers paint. The guys on Youtube sure have great results with those chrome pens. I saw one guy that had a Quart can and was applying it with a large paint brush, it sure looked good. Must have been creative editing.

Does anybody know if the reproduction whole bezels are any good?

Jon Mello

I have not heard good things about the reproduction bezels regarding how they fit but don't have first hand experience. Maybe someone else here does.

I didn't try the chrome paint pen.  I tried silver and didn't like the results.  Used the chrome tape and it held great.  I cleaned the edge with alcohol or lacquer thinner.  Can't remember which.

First photo is of the silver

Second is the chrome tape found on ebay

Third is an original.

The best option explained to me was to have the original bezel chromed at one of the companies that chromes plastic. I talked to a rep. about doing it. He said they would chrome the entire bezel and then repaint the painted surfaces. They couldn't chrome just the flat surfaces, that was 10 years ago. He wouldn't give me a price with out seeing the piece. I wasn't sure what the quality of the final product was going to be so I didn't move forward.

That's not how the factory pieces were done....

Well, If somebody has come up with a way to accurately replicate the factory I'm all ears. I've heard, it turned out good, it is close, looks pretty good, but have yet to hear it turned out perfect looks just like the factory.

Nobody seemed to chime in on complete reproduction bezels for 67 & 68...I wonder how well they fit?
I am doing a very high level restoration.
Will I lose points for not being original if I us aftermarket or is it worst to have the chrome trim faded on my original?

I am trying not to use anything aftermarket however. I want the dealer showroom new look on entire car.
