My brother in law is going to aquire his late Uncle's 1968 Camaro.  He will be bringing it home next weekend. When he went to see it back during Christmas time, he was able to drive it. The question is, it is badged with RS emblems, has an RS steering wheel center cap, but it has z28 stripes, a standard grille with RS badge, no back up lights in rear valance, and it has a 350 in it.  Now, his Uncle was supposedly the 2nd owner, and my brother in law hasn't asked his aunt if his Uncle had done any work to it, or was this how he recieved it. But I just wanted to ask an expert, if it could still be an RS car?
I will have numbers pretty soon to run.
Thank you

JohnZ

Sounds like a standard car with some RS badging and Z28 stripes; tell us more when you get it home.

Standard grille with RS badge?   No back up lights in rear valance?  These are two major issues I would have in verifying this car as a real RS.   I think you'll have to ask your uncle and brother in law a lot of questions to get to the truth.  Good luck!

I ran the numbers myself, the VIN shows it to be a 6 cyl. car. So that alone rules out the RS.
The cowl tag don't belong to the car, it shows 12437, and a Ermine White exterior, and Teal Blue Interior. What thru me was the built code which is 10E , was there a fifth week in Oct. 68, or 67 when the car was built???  Anyway def. by no means a RS, but still a sweet lookin' ride.
Thanks guys

While I agree that your car is probably not an RS, you can't rule out the RS option just because the engine's not a V8. The RS option was available on ANY Camaro regardless of the engine size.

The Cowl tag will ALWAYS show 12437 no matter what engine is installed. The VIN is the only true indicator of a V8 or 6 cylinder. If it's 123x7, it's a 6, if it's 124x7 it's a V8. Don't go by the Cowl Tag on this one.

10E would be the 5th week of October, 1967. HERE'S a 1967 Calendar for you to look at.

Post the Trim Tag info and your VIN and we can tell you if the tag lines up with the VIN.
