Axle shafts for 12 bolt or 8.5 10 bolt???

Is there a quick easy way to tell a 12 bolt shaft from a 10 8.5  bolt unit???  Spline count / thickness ??  Came across 2 sets yesterday and thus the question..  Thanks!!!  Ted

Just to, I guess answer my own qestion, 28 splines = 10 bolt 8.5 and 30 splines = 12 bolt
I have 26 spline axles = 7.5 ten bolt and the 28 spline variety to equal 8.5 10 bolt.  Unfortunately no 30 spliners!!!  T.
