FWIW,
I had flywheel bolts that were loose and drove me nuts for wondering what the heck was wrong. I agree, pull the trans.

Took out some of the free play (about 2.5") in the clutch pedal and left about 1". Improved dramatically. Let's see what happens, winter is coming, too soon, and I most likely will pull the transmission and see what may be the issue, maybe with the excessive free play it messed up the throw out bearing.
Thanks again for all the input on this..
Cruise on!

Free play should be 1" at pedal.

Do you know what brand clutch you have in there?

WaltZ

my bad it is 1".
does any use the clutch fork rod spacer/adapter?

WaltZ

found it.
it was the fan causing it.
after careful reshaping of the blades , i was able to eliminate the rumble/ vibration.
did not realize how delicate the blades were and using care, just how easy they were to reshape within 1/16 of an inch as the specs.

Make sure none of the blades are cracked. It gets ugly when they break.

thanks, I did order a replacement, when I get it I will install it and keep the original on the shelf.

Curious how you ended up with the fan after  clutch pedal play. So it wasn't actually speed related but more rpm?

WaltZ

traced back on things that were recently done on the motor.
I just reinstalled the oe rebuilt ps pump and the rebuilt oe water pump, so we decided to run, as a process of illimitation. one at a time I eliminated the alternator, ps pump, clutch with fan, then the clutch only, then I took the fan off the clutch, and all was good. time and patience worked for me.

GOOD INFO HERE. I have the same rumble, just at a higher speed 60-70mph. I rebalanced the drive shaft and new joints and it got a little better; but it just groans real low, like the car is wanting to push out a turd. LOL
