All,

Finally read to go to paint.

Is the under side of the hood body color or black? I had always thought body color but someone recently told me otherwise. Just want to make sure.

Thanks!

The underside of the hood was not body color. It was left in black primer, a small amount of body color overspray along the edges.

Tks. Were the sides of the hood then body color with the underside receiving body spray? Or did even the sides of the hood, fender components that wrapped into the engine compartment onto inner fenders, header panel and valance edges also body color or oversprayed? Tks again.

All the edges of the hood are body color. The entire fender is body color. The inside edge of the headed panel is body color. & the entire cowl panel is body color....Joe

If the shop painting your car does not know this and is leaving you to do the research, chances are they will screw up other areas. Most likely the firewall black out, which they will tape it off which is incorrect, or paint the top of the cowl black when it should be body color.

The entire fender is not body color, only its exterior and inner brace; and the inner brace often saw coverage only on the topsides of contours. The backside of the fender never got full body color coverage.

I guess I explained that wrong on the fender. That's actually what I meant. Thanks for correcting that...Joe

nice illustration Bill shows the light mist on the under side of the lips etc...

This shows where the hood was supported on the buck during the painting process...

Here's my factory hood and fender also. My fender seemed to have gotten pretty decent coverage on the back side. My hood was the standard color top and sides, black primer bottom with over spray.

Your fenders are typical of coverage Dave... easily replicated just set them up with a 2 inch gap and shoot the panels...
