Thanks again to Mike Scott (group/7) for sharing his copy of the follow-up road test of the Car & Driver Blue Maxi
Camaro, aka Z/29. He also included some of the letters that were written in by readers after the article appeared.

Jon, I think the Blue Maxi might be my all time favorite magazine car. Whether the statistics were faked or not, like the Hot Rod '67, I don't know.
Doug  '67 RS/SS 396 auto I know the car since new

it showed up at a cruise night in NJ

and is supposed to be in the next issue of Super Chevy

I saw it at the Camaro Nationals in the Poconos back in 1990 and it was in good shape then also. I think it has always been well cared for. Like you, I'm glad it's still around. I know I took some pics of it back then but I'd have to do some digging to find them now.

something interesting from back in the day.......

Cars magazine and Motion Performance did sort of a reply to the Car & Driver Blue Maxi Z29.
They called it the Green Meanie Z30

1969 Z/28 with 350 cross ram, headers, L88 style hood, other mods , claimed over 400HP

Jon Mello

I posted that previously in the "Crossram manifold" thread but here it is again for convenience. (Jon Mello Collection)

Thanks Jon and Mike (group/7) for posting the scans of the original articles.  I had seen and read a copy of the 2nd article before but I had never seen the first.  Love the psychedelic photos of the car!  Interesting to note that the car was used as a "course car" at Bridgehampton during a driving school.  I also noticed that the Super Chevy article states, "when it went to Penske and they built it, they put rally-car brakes on the front so they could use it as a pace car for rallying and stuff."

I don't have a 1st Gen but I have 1971 Z28 RS 4-spd, 1997 Z28 Z4C 6-spd, 2000 SS Convertible, 2010 RS 6-spd
