Guys that have their original 69 Z chrome shifter balls please chime in. I have an opportunity to purchase for what I think is a reasonable price and what the guy says is an original chrome ball that he took off of a Z/28 back in the 70's. It is non magnetic and weighs 8 ounces.  I have looked through the old threads both on here and TC and have read where the originals were non magnetic and approx 4 ounces. Anyone have an original that weighs more? I don't want to get stuck with an old repop. Your thoughts please!
Thanks for the help!

I've been going through the same hunt. And I've found a few guys selling one they say are originals for 69 Z's but are not. Be careful, they're a high dollar item.

Thanks Rick! I've been skeptical too when looking to buy one. Hopefully some of the guys that still have the original ones on their cars will help.

Man, I could say so much, I have a pair of these original shifter, um parts, that I could provide a pic. They are not brass either...why do I feel like Anthony Weiner right now?

Had to go to Post Office today, so I took a couple of original knobs and had them weighed. Both examples were 3.9 oz.s each. I am providing pics of both, showing composition under chrome and threaded area. They are 1.78 in. diam. and of course, non-magnetic. Hope this helps.

I appreciate it. That is exactly what I needed. The one I'm looking at has to be a reproduction. Thanks to all for the input and help, even the comedians! :)

Here's mine. Weighed in at 3.9 ounces. Maybe it weighed 4 ounces when it had chrome originally?

Thanks Jimmy, looks and weighs the same as the other two above. That helps greatly!

I have both originals and a couple re-pops from years past.  The old (very old) re-pop I have is both heavy and magnetic. The later re-pop is heavier than the original, not as heavy as the first re-pop but more importantly IMHO not magnetic. My car restoration will have an original one onboard but really the important point is to have one that is non-magnetic as I do not thing a judge will pull the knob to weigh but could easly check for magnetism. Originals if the person knows what they have bring very big money normally.
