Are the 302 emblems on the 1969 Z 28  ZL2 hood, factory original or put on later at some time.

So all factory ZL2 hoods on Z's should have the 302 emblems?

I have not seen a factory cowl hood car that didnt have the emblem.  Of course lots of people added their hoods after the fact and probably didnt always add the emblem.

Or they put the Chevelle 'COWL INDUCTION' emblems on the hood instead of the '302'......

I imagine a lot of people on new installations use barrel nuts instead of how they were meant to be installed - speed nuts with integral sealant. What a pain it was to locate the holes properly (I did mine in 1974; no aftermarket templates, then). Had to get really inventive to reach through the hood holes to reach the studs -

BTW, the hood was $83.00, the emblems were $3.00 and change apiece. Drove the car hoodless to the dealer, pulled the hood out of the box, bolted it to the hinges and attached the latch, closed it and drove home. Amazing what you'll do to look good in your Z (the car needed less help with that than me-). Guys in the parts department good a good laugh out of that one, and so did I.

Since that hood (and intake setup) wasn't "factory" (it was all OTC parts), it was whatever the owner wanted it to be.

Couldn't the ZL2 hood be ordered on other Camaro models?

I think you could also get it on an SS as an upgrade. So with these 3 examples you see there were a handful of ways to get one from the factory. In fact most Z/28 's did not have have the ZL2 hood. When you factor the COPO, pace car convertibles/hardtop Z/10, and SS upgraded to the hood, I think it figures more like 1 in 11 Z/28 got the the hood . So for 1969, out of 20,302 Z/28 cars, probably less than 2,000 came with the ZL2 hood from the factory.

People are always commenting on how they like the *Looks* of the ZL2 hood, ie. whether they 'like it' . or like the flat hood..  but the BEST part of that system is being behind the wheel, grabbing a gear, and kicked it down, and watching taht flap OPEN UP.. and hearing the air charging into the engine..  :)   (been a long time since I heard/saw mine, but I remember that well).. :)
