flow chart or program restroration

Does anyone use a .... or has anyone used a restoration program or flow chart method to keep them tracking on their restoration project? 

I have used a method called Critical planning method and or PERT in the past for construction civil engineering work....   i am thinking of putting something together...

Basically I have those Camaro restoration books... they are helpful to a point... I find it is more paper drafting, asking others who have been there done that, taking documenting photos and just knowing what is next to getter done... any thoughts???

As I went through the mechanical rework of my '69 RS, I broke the project down into sections, which included.

Front Suspension (removal, disassembly)
Front End Disassembly (engine and transmission removal, front clip removal, sub frame removal)
Engine / Transmission Rebuild
Detail Driveshaft - new ball joints
Cowl Detailing
Heater Core Replacement; Master Cylinder Rebuild; check windshield wiper motor, windshield washer pump; heater blower
Sub Frame Restoration (urethane bushings in the sub-frame; clean, blast, repaint sub frame, etc.)
Hydroblast underside of body from transmission tunnel to cowl
Repaint underside of body semi gloss black (note: the vast majority of the underside of my car was undercoated -
                                                           which I did not remove - it had worked for 40 yrs so I left it intact for the most part)
Engine / Transmission Reinstallation as a unit
Front Clip Reinstallation

Remove Rear End
Remove Gas Tank
Remove Old Leaf Sring Bushings

Clean, seal, detail gas tank - new sending unit
Clean, detail rear end - new hard line brake line
Hydroblast and clean bottom of body above the rear end and gas tank
Paint cleaned area, rear end, and leaf springs with "Rust Bullet" semi gloss black
Final detail pain of leaf springs to correct color
Reinstall gas tank
Reinstall rear end with urethane bushings

For each section I listed out individual steps in an Excel spreadsheet so I could keep track of where I was and the cost associated with each step.   Nothing fancy, but it worked for me.

Check out some of the Mustang websites.  Many Mustang restorers are big on flowcharts, etc.  I've never paid that much attention to the charts, but surely the principles would be the same.  I do know that some of the GM restorers have an elaborate flowchart and record keeping system, but I've only seen pieces of it, not the whole.

Yeah...I bet one of those programs would work fine if you have a good understanding of the restoration flow.

I was just thinking there might be something out there that might help the restoration process....

tracking progress on each parts restoration, etc... but more importantly knowing what to do  and when to do it... 


ah huh,

maybe this might be the expert Master restorers secrets to the perfection of this art....  and am I worthy of this knowledge....
