Just to quantify the weight difference the originals are just under 4 ounces and the repops are just over 8 ounces.

the repop is about $20 , the last NOS original I saw on epay sold over $300

I sold an original with bad chrome on ebay and sold over $100

a nice original survivor ball with decent chrome , I would guess would sell $150 to $200

No doubt about it, my 69 Z is worth more as parts than as a complete car. Amazing!

the net value of the parts may be more then the car but there is no free lunch

if you had to pay someone to disassemble the car and sell all the parts on ebay, classified ads, swap meets, lug everything around or do all the shipping etc, you probably only get 50% or less then the net value and would take some time to do it all

I was looking at a very nice car awhile back and thought if I sold the crossram and parts and the JL8 and parts, man I would have a nice reasonable driver. The parts were not matching #,s by the way but were GM.

How can you truly verify a part like this? Looking at the bottom of the shift knob, it looks as if its a 40 year old un-used part. But how can you tell with 100% certainty that its legit?
