Gentlemen did Chevy from the factory use the heavy duty morse link chain and wider cam and crank gear set? Its a heavy duty set, wider plastic cam gear and wide crank gear that was used on the 67-69 model years, is this a legit factory install or a over the counter buy at the  GM delearship?

The Z/28 used the same timing chain (3896961), crank sprocket (3896959) and cam sprocket (3896960) as all other 327 and 350 engines; nothing unique to the Z/28 302 engine in that area.

Thanks John, appreciate the info. Apparently these heavy duty sprokets and chains were availiable over the counter at GM High Perf catalogs. Some one on ebay is selling this set and claimed these came on the 302 Engines from the factory. Thanks again for setting this straight.

Don't install that nylon cam gear in your engine.  They were junk.........still are.  I can't tell you how many friends trashed their engines when that gear started to come apart.  Bent valves, the whole ball of wax.  I changed the cam in my Chevelle just in time......was coming apart when we removed it.

Thanks Jerry very much for that info. I wondered why these types were not installed from the factory in these engines. Appreciate your help and honesty here Jerry. From a customer of yours, thanks again.

The auction has ended and some poor soul bid $307.00 for this "junk"!     :o

Maybe they're gonna build one of the 60,000 69 Z's that were made.  When your making an expensive car, no expense is spared.
