early built 12d 1968 z pedal holder finish

Did anyone ever see a black painted pedal holder?The saddle that holds the clutch and brake pedals and booster. Everyone that I have seen has been bare steel. Is this an early built thing??thanks John

I've only ever seen bare steel on ones that appeared to be original.

I haven't dealt with a lot of 68 pedals.
But all the pedals I've seen have been dipped, so the black is only partway up the pedal arms.
