my Dad has a 1969 camaro that he as always talked about restoring but has never had the means.  i am 34 and would LOVE to help him do this but i have no idea where to begin!  we live in Florence SC and would like any suggestions.  i remember riding in it when i was a teenager but i am sure that it needs extensive work now.

Katrina,

First, two questions for you:
1. What will your father do with the car after it is restored?  Show it, drive it, both?  So, what is your ultimate goal?
2. How much time and money are you willing to put into the car?

Paul is right.  You would get good, reliable information, etc. by talking with Lucas Restorations.

Let me further suggest you talk with some local car clubs to find out about SC restorers, etc.  I know there is an AACA region that meets in Florence.  It is the Swamp Fox region.  Talk to them.  You can get their contact information off the AACA web site.  Sorry, I do not know any of their officers.  I have met the officers of the Sparkle City Region in Spartenburg.  They have a good club and some beautifully restored cars.

If you want a Legends-class resotration, I second (or third) Ken Lucas. His work is outstanding.

Remember one thing about restoring any car,it cost about the same to do a base 6cyl 15k car as it does to do a 427 150k car. That's what I've found in my 35 years in the business.Good luck!
