Hi fellas, need some advice on how to restore my driveshaft to a factory"correct"  look.  Did it come bare metal with the colored bands painted on? Or was it painted, then the bands applied?  Have seen them done both ways.... Also, does anyone have any specs on the colored bands?   Thanks, Ed

Yes, found a few posts on the bands, but nothing addressing how they were applied, what the colors meant, or if they were applied over bare metal..... Just trying to determine if I should blast the driveshaft, paint the stripes, and then clearcoat... or paint the shaft silver, and then stripe...
One of the posted photos leads me to believe that the stripes were painted on bare metal, but have seen restored driveshafts that were painted as well... Just want to be as correct as possible!  Thanks, Ed

Ed -

All the original cars I have inspected have had bare metal driveshafts.  As for the painted stripes, read this CRG thread...   http://www.camaros.org/forum/index.php?topic=4460.0

Thanks a bunch Paul. That helps! At least I now know that the shaft was bare metal!   The stripe config remains a mystery, but I'm sure the answer will pop up one day. Thank you again. Ed

The shaft was spinning when the stripes were applied.

Thanks Kurt. With that, do you know if it was done on a jig where there would be consistant spacing, stripe width, ect......?  I would imagine so...

Perfect Jim!  You wouldn't by any chance have a photo or measurements?   Thanks again, Ed
