Smog tube removal help

l am trying to remove the smog tubes from my manifolds but they have never been off. So far I have soaked them with PB over night and tried to remove them but not happening. Any suggestions? I haven't put heat to them yet. they are 69 BB and in real good shape.

Be sure to use a quality line wrench, no hammers, work them by hand, good luck, VT

thats what l'm using snap on and not cranking too hard. if l feel any movement but not spinning l back off.

heat up the manifold with a torch, not the nut, melt wax into threads alow to cool and should come right out.

Chances of getting the out are not very good.  We have tried to do this hundreds of times and only removed them a few times without issues.

l tried the heat n wax but didn't do it for me. what kind of wax are you using? regular car wax?

He's talking about candle wax.  Does not work most of the time.  We often use this while trying to remove fittings from intake manifolds before restoration.

candle wax works, but bees wax is best.

I agree with Jerry. I have tried the wax trick with little success. I have soaked the with WD-40 and PB Blaster. I am thinking that I now have to go to a machine shop for removal.

Ejam, one more thought. While you are working the fittings, with pressure on, try TAPPING on the manifold with a metal hammer to cause "ultrasonic" (fancy word!) vibrations. this sometimes will help corrosion or metal fusion to break loose. Don't give up or try to hurry. They will come off. good luck.

works when manifold is heated to cherry red.
