Anyone with a 68 L78 LOS Camaro VIN 18L311635, I got your M22 Rockcrusher. See picture.

Have you verified the internal gears are original GM?  Does it have the original plugs?

How do you know the car it was in was originally an L78?

Yes the original gears still had the paint mark on them. Yes it has the Lisle drain plugs and the original metal ID tag. I bought this M22 from  a man in California. The transmission had never been opened. It was removed from the 68 Camaro shortly after the car was bought new because the owners wife couldn't drive a manual. The metal tag is 3925626, which designates 1968 M22 L78. Now I have a question for you, do you have the car? I would post some pictures but every time I have tried to do that in the past my image files were too big (~4mb) and is way too much trouble resizing them. Again, do you have the car?

That VIN is a 78L311635 and my Muncie is a 18L311635. Hmmmmm

No I don't have the car. I am currently the person handling most of the 68 database entries.

I'm confused about the VIN on the M22 now. It's 18L311365 and the VIN on that 68 Camaro link another guy posted thats for sale on Streetside Classics VIN is 78L311365. See what I'm talking about?

I think the (Number stamped on Power trains and hidden Sheetmetal is a CON VIN
A Con VIN is a Contracted Vehicle Identification Number (i.e. Shortened) ? (* I might have that abbreviation incorrect??) aka "Partial VIN"
A CON VIN of 18L311365
is broke down as 1 = Chevrolet Motor Division, 8 =  Model Year 1968, L =  Vehicle assembly plant LOS, 311365 Unique sequential serial number.

Streetsides VIN is Fully listed as: VIN: 124378L311635

Your Partial VIN matches.

This is the tag that is on the Muncie M22 I have that matches the VIN on that Camaro. That tag designates a M22 with L78. So obviously the 68 Camaro for sale on Streetside Classic not only is a real SS but an L78 car too. If that isn't the born with engine in it, which probably isn't, without original documentation there is no way to prove that car was an L78 M22 car. I guess I have the only "proof" for the car. LOL

Another pictures showing the gears.

May I ask by Chance is it Double Stamped on the Top, we have seen incidences of a top double stamp fore and aft?
