Ok....I've tried everywhere to get a picture of an original car with the temp sender wiring with console gauges.

I have a kit from HBC that has TWO nuts and the star washer.  I see on the AIM that the wire terminal is put in first, then the star washer - then the nut - then tighten.  Ok - easy.

Am I to believe that I should have one nut tightened onto the sender, then the wire terminal - then star washer - then the other nut and tighten that all together??????

I'm going with the AIM - but are there any original cars out there with two nuts?

Looking for the real experts to chime in!!!!!  LOL!

My car is factory with gauges & still has the original sender. 1 nut, 1 lock washer. Not a star washer. With the original sender, there's not enough threads for a 2nd nut.....Joe

Interesting - I looked in the AIM and the part number for that washer is 138479 - which is a "toothed" washer.  Looked it up on AMK and internet search, and its a toothed washer.  Could this be another GM AIM vs reality snafu?  I just found a picture with a cross ram that has what you have - a split lock washer.
Whatever - I have better things to worry about.  LOL

I've had that car since 1981. I always put hardware back where it came off. Between 1970, when the dealer finally sold it & 1981 something could've changed. I wonder what others have on their cars?....Joe

Not doubting Joe,s car came with a lock washer I think that the star washer is what was intended and should be there.

Agreed, star washers were designed for electrical conductivity....

I decided to use the star washer like is says in the AIM.   Would be nice to see other original cars...

Isn't this the original style sending unit for a 69 with console gauges?

x66 714

No. That the replacement that some companies sell.

I'm most likely going to change mine to a star washer. What Kurt says makes complete sense.....Joe

IIRC, that's the style without gauges.

I just did some research on the 138479. I didn't find it in AMK. On GMWikisearch, it says it's a #10 external star washer with a 13/32 o.d., zinc. It's the same lock washer that's used on the starter solenoid & probably many other places. Sorry for the confusion....Joe
