I have a 68 Z motor that I,m going to try and get rid of without using ebay, I didn't see a for sale section in your web site so I figured I would ask in general discussion if this is allowed here or any suggestions were I could go.

If it still has the VIN stamp, you should put it in the orphans section.  :)

I have a 68 Z motor.

What's the engine assembly code and partial vin stamped on the engine pad?  Thanks in advance.

Block is 3914678, crank is 3279, there is O's on the rods, there is no #'s stamped into the block & I don't understand why because the motor has never been rebuilt, has standard bearings throughout & standard bore, I'm assuming it was decked but why nothing else? The story I got was it was a crate motor never assigned to a vehicle, which I personally think is BS. I had it on ebay & was completely scammed & don't want to do it again, it was recommended that I ask on this site for assistance.

What's the casting date on the block?   :)

I'm almost ashamed to admit it but, yes I did, I really don't know what else to do, I keep asking around & getting no answers, no offense to your site what so ever. I tried to sell it on ebay before & someone stole my identity & was selling camara's & cell phones so they shut down my account during auction, I'm pretty sure I could have sold it to a bidder but we ended up in an argument because he thought I tried to pull one over on him because it ended. Oh well see what happens.

So what it the actual asking price? ie reserve?

I set it at 2000, which I think it's well worth ? I don't know, maybe I'm nuts.

Brian -

Give it another try and see, it can't hurt.  I think $2000.00 might be too high a price without the original engine assembly code and partial vin stamped on the engine pad to show it was an original Z/28 engine.  The only part on your engine that is unique to the Z/28 is the crankshaft as the 3914678 block was used in all '68 Camaro small blocks.  Good luck with the sale!     :)

I heard there were some chemicals that could reveal the original stamping from the metal stress or whatever. Why don't you check it out and see if it will pull up and numbers?

Brian,

I looked at the pics on e bay; Looks like the correct aluminum intake? Date codes close to engine dates codes? Correct deep groove pulley on front of balancer? Is balancer correct 8" dia? If you have had the heads off, does it have correct 302 4" bore pistons? If all these are correct, they help support an original 302 theory. If the bore is std 4", it seems likely to be an original 302, unless someone overbored a 283? I don't think they made a 283 in 68? If true, all this evidence helps support your case. Good luck

The balancer is 8'', I do have the heads off & it is a standard 4'' bore with pop-ups, the intake is not correct it is a holley. I just wish I knew why somebody would totally disassemble a motor to deck it & that's it? I pulled some main & rod caps off to verify & there all standard to , they even look good to .I wish someone could come look at this thing just to see it, I think it really is the real deal, at least the short block is.
