Rebuilding factory shock absorbers

Has anyone had any luck finding someone to rebuild the original, factory shock absorbers?  I know you can buy replacements with the original part numbers and stamp in the date codes but I would love to be able to reuse the originals.  Thanks

That ad says no Camaro GTO Chevelle or Nova. I'd ask what does rebuild mean. If it means drilling a little hole and putting fluid in and sealing the hole then I wouldn't consider that rebuilt. Most shocks leak because the Piston is worn out.

I asked him about what shocks he had a few years ago, and he told me no Chevelle, camaro, GTO , nova. I think that means he doesn't have those on hand, but can rebuild them if provided.

The design of the shock makes it very difficult to rebuild. There have been a couple of people that do it over the years, no recollection on how good the product was, but I know the discussion has happened before and is in the archives.

Dan (Dan's Shocks) has rebuilt two sets of original spiral shocks for my Camaros in the past 2 years. His work is excellent however the service is specialized and expensive with the turnaround time exceeding 6 months. He is the go-to for spiral shock rebuilding in the NCRS Community. I would call Dan directly to discuss your needs as he's often seriously backlogged and overwhelmed however he does get the work done.

I just had a set of shocks arrive from Dan last week for one of my '68 Camaros and they look and work like factory new and can recommend him , however he did take four months which he made clear when I ordered them.

$250 each would buy a nice set of Koni's...   

Factory shocks, even HD ones, in that time frame lasted about a year in my experience... I doubt these rebuilt ones would last as long (if you really want to DRIVE the car)...

When I bought my '69 z28, it had the originals on it; I immediately replaced them with Gabriel Strider adjustables (which are still on it now which work just fine parked in the garage!)..   I have a new set of Konis for it when I again drive it...
