Hey, I'm looking at a car to purchase and wanting opinions on the authenticity of the DZ pad stamp. The VIN stamp on the block matches the VIN on the transmission which matches the car VIN.  Car is an X33 and is claimed to be a matching # RS Z28. All Cowl tag numbers check out. But I am curious about the alignment irregularity on the DZ pad stamp. Any help is appreciated.

That is neither an early [Sep '68] nor a later [Sep '69] style DZ block stamping. If the VIN stamping is on the side of the block by the oil filter it would have to be a Sep '69 build. Painted pads are always suspect.

If you're saying the car has an 'X33' tag, there are other problems.

Thanks for the reply. What other problems does the X33 point to? I thought X33 was a Z28 and RS could not be X77?

Here is more of the car. The car's VIN matches VIN stamp on block and tranny. Please help me or show me anything that doesnt look right. I would very much appreciate it. What did you mean by this "is neither a Sept 68 nor Sept 69 style DZ block stamping"?

Totally fabricated car. Altered body tag, re-stamped drive train.

Wow...thanks for saving a "NEWBIE"...  Although I will give myself credit for catching the misaligned font on thw DZ stamped by the 3rd grader. I appreciate all you who chimed in and to "william" who directed me to the previous post on this car. Much obliged!

If you can see the vin on the block that clearly, there is something wrong.  In that rough cast area, the numbers are very hard to see

Numbers and letters can be misaligned. That VIN stamp looks to be nice and fresh and SUPER deep and clear. Never try to authenticate a pad stamp with a painted surface. Must be able to see the factory broaching. Like the pictures below. Trans picture needs to be much clearer also, but in this case it'
s all a moot point, cause this is just a Camaro.. Danny
