Saw this on craigslist, and did not look right to me.

I assume re-stamp since it is missing a digit on the pad for the VIN. Opinions please

thanks

I think it's a genuine stamp, but the degree of pitting/weathering makes it hard to be sure. The LOS partial is consistent with a few others I have from the same timeframe, although those have been 618 casting blocks, but the 2 missing digits..... perhaps those were more worn than others in the gang stamp and ended up lightly impressed?

Is this picture any better? Tim what  numbers are missing ? The nine after the one and maybe a zero after the 5 ?

It's a real stamp.

>Casting No. on block is 3932388 dated February 25, 1969 (B 25 9).
Interesting.

Thanks Kurt. How rare is it for a vin stamp to be missing a digit? (I assume at the end)
Also, any idea what the full vin would have been?

ok. so they ran out of room for the last digit then?

So if someone had a 69 Z built in that time frame this block would work for 10 different Vin numbers possibly?

I know they didn't make Z/28's in batches, but it seems like the odds are in 10 cars there might a chance more than 1 Z was produced.
I am talking to the seller, might try to work a deal, I know the date is way off, but since the price isn't to bad it is probably the best I can find in my area.

No they didn't run out of room. Stamp could have easily been moved over.

The chance of their being more than one Z28 that would fit in the VIN range for this block is fairly low.  Z28s were NOT built in batches.

Check some of the posts about higher option cars being spaced out in the assembly line.

Good luck getting the block.
