Very nice entry on horns (and batteries)..  both seemed to be very complete.

Yup, I got a "charge" out of the battery info! :D

Is not the fastener used to mount the horns somewhat unique? And should/could that information, if this is true, be added?

Kurt, great write up as usual! thanks

Bentley, per the AIM, the 69 horn bolt is the 3846202, the same captured washer bolt used in various fender locations, not rare :)  Can't say about 67& 68.

I wonder if there are two part numbers involved - my original captured washers have a "serrated" bottom to them, which I thought was unique to the horn assembly - I have seen both, often wondered which was correct. Informal poll ?

Seems like I remember a captured serrated washer as well on a couple other cars...

1967 and 1968 used 3853846 which had the "toothed" washer (top picture). 1969 used the 3846202 which had the "smooth" washer (bottom picture).

The 69 AIM notes the left side horn uses the 'prod. screw (catch asm to hood lock support asm)' and the right side horn uses 3846202, which has a note (4) against it which in the revision history is dated 10-28-68 stating 'was 3853846'. So the right side fastener is as Ed's numbers/pictures above.

Same basic screw, just without any captured washer.

Ed/Tim,

Thanks for clearing that up. I looked at my originals on the 01C X77, they are correct, it's the Pace Car that is wrong. It had incorrect horns on it when I bought it in '94, I replaced the horns with the right part #s and dates, but I picked the wrong bolts (68's) out of spares when I reassembled them. I'll switch it back based on this -
