Barrett-Jackson is as tired of this crap as we are. Their 2017 Scottsdale catalog has a great story about the team of experts they have on staff to weed out misrepresented cars.

I may be wrong but I do not believe any other major auction company does this.

I think you're right William, I don't believe the other auctions around the area bother with authenticating anything.   I know BJ catches a lot of flack for driving up classic car prices (debatable) but I applaud them for stepping up to the plate and protecting the buyers in these types of instances.

so I have a question, besides vetting real cars, does BJ verify original docs? Like does Jerry or some NCRS judge do this for them?

There were a few Z/28s there with original window stickers displayed. I'm sure JM saw them. I'm sure he would question repro docs and elevate it to B-J management. They are the final arbitrator. I have seen repro docs there but not lately.

No matter the auction, they all have similar boilerplate in their bidder agreements: You're on your own and we are not responsible if it turns out to be a mutt. No one can fully vet 1,700 cars in the space of a week or so. B-J is the only collector car auction that screens muscle cars and I'm sure it is a big expense for them. But, well worth it.

I would think because they offer some protection with this service, that it attracts more buyers.
I would be interested to hear from X33RS (Larry), or Jack92584 or anyone else, if you were interested in a car, and given that Jerry is on site how much time does he spend with each car? do they have a lift where he verifies drive train? or does he just check the tags, and hidden vin quickly and move on? (considering there are about 50-100 camaros there)

I sold my Z @ BJ las Vegas in 2015 one of the first things I did when I got there was to check out the competition. There was another "real Z" that was there that had an obvious fake trim tag. It was only a matter of hours before the original description on the windshield was removed and replaced with a new one that only called the car a Camaro coupe. I assume that it was flagged by JM.

I'm sure of that!   It undoubtedly resulted from one of their best customers (the LV homebuilder) who got 'took' by a supposed real documented Z that turned out to be a TOTAL fake... and it was you Classic Gary that exposed that lie as I recall... 

PS.  Did you notice that BJ customer turned his $125K 'lemon' into a $145K glass of lemonaide when he sold it off with all his cars a year or two ago?     What that proves *mostly* is that the selling price of cars at B-J depends more on how they are PUSHED by the auction co... than their real value!
