DId a 69 Z use the capacitor on the coil?

coil bracket with the "notch" is not unique to the Z/28; originals don't have the notch, although the eBay sellers want you to believe they did, so they can claim they're "rare". The one in the photo is clearly from another application, as it has the screw to attach the radio noise suppresson capacitor, which was never used on a '69 Camaro.

Bill I don't have access to my '69 AIM right now, but I was under the impression the capacitor was shown in UPC U63. Perhaps I'm thinking of the capacitor on the voltage reg?

The way I interrupt the AIM on this is that the U63 and U69 are combined and there are callouts for the U69 option.  Look at the whole AIM page including the title block.  This may help answer your question.  BTW no capacitor on the coil bracket.

My bracket shows no sign of anything being attached to it, no threads in hole. Here is a picture from the Dusk blue car 69 Zee.

I guess you could say never say never.  Still need to investigate more.  Could it have been added at some point early in its life.?.  Maybe. Is there a way to know 100% probably not.

Bill, I *think* (and that's a dangerous thing) the throttle return spring hooks into the hole where the capacitor bracket is mounted in your picture. BUT...I'm not certain which car my memory has revived. Coulda been a 350 (my El Camino) or a 396 (69 Impala)

Yes. I looked at the AIM and it looks like some of the drawings were after my car and I don't have the wiring on the heater motor like they show. Maybe just FM radio stuff

The greenish throttle return spring attaches to the the rear plug wire stand on the Z.  There's a tab with a hole for it to hook into.

I thought that bracket looked familiar..lol.  I have a few other pics of original Z engines and they're also showing a capacitor attached to the coil bracket.

Helps the points last longer so why would it not get one?

I don't recall any mounted to the bracket. The cap used with the fan motors, came on cars equipped with am/fm and was for noise suppression.

Yes the capacitor attached to the points is for arc suppression to preserve the points.

The capacitor for the points is located on the plate under the distributor cap.  The one on the coil was for noise suppression on the radio.
