X mark on rear bulkhead

Is the X marking on the bulkhead under the rear seat only on cars with X coded trim tags, or is it on earlier cars as well?

I have an 11C built 69 Norwood car with an LG 7 on the bulkhead.  I'm guessing LG=Light Green. I have a 721 interior.

I owned an 11D car SS350 non x code. It had an X5 behind the rear seat. I tried to post a pic but can't get it to show up.

This is fun. I look forward to checking out my 10B Z. Of course, I could be disappointed if there isn't anything there! I'll check it out and advise results.

I have an 10C non x code car that has an X1 mark on the rear bulkhead, can anyone tell me what this mark might have indicated? Thanks in advance.....Clint

Jerry's book page 197. X11 style trim group includes SS350 w/style trim. But it does not exclusively designate an SS 350 car. X1 in this case should mean X11.

Just removed rear seat from my 69 RS Z/28 and sure enough, X3 on the rear bulkhead just like the man said. Mine assembly date is 10B. All these years I thought my car could not be verified as an X33 because it was an early build with no trim tag code; code was there all the time, I just didn't know it until today! You can bet I took a couple of photos. Thanks to the site for the help. Sherlock Holmes would be proud of the detective work that goes on here.

I wouldn't use an X making on the bulkhead as absolute proof of the car being anything.  I've seen atleast 2 on Ebay where people have added a code to the rear bulkhead.  Fortunately they were stupid enough to put it over the glue residue holding the rear trim upholstery onto the bulkhead.  My point is this marking and alot of other items can and are being faked.  Documentation is the only thing that is going to hold any meaning in the not to distant future, because of all the fakes out there.

So I take it that this X bulkhead only pertains to NOR cars and not on LOS cars. Correct?

I think my point was missed. I have owned my car since 1982. At that time, there was not even information regarding "X" codes on the trim plate, much less the rear bulkhead. It was fun finding the X3 marking where it had been hidden since 1968! It is really just another of many pieces of the puzzle documenting the car, most of which have been identified long after I bought it. All I knew for certain at the time was that "DZ" was the 302.

I didn't miss your point Jimmy.  I feel the same way. Those of us who aren't fortunate enough to have cars that come with pedigrees are quite happy with the little things we stumble onto that help us piece together the puzzle. I felt like a kid on Christmas morning when I found my crayon codes.  Barely visible, in sloppy letters, and covered with glue---there was that big old 7.  Yep, I know it doesn't mean jack squat towards any kind of authentic certification---but it means something to me.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         ;)

Is there anything that is "proof" anyway? Can't it all be faked, including paperwork? I do not have the original paperwork or POP. What I do have is the car itself with the original engines trans, rear et. al. I'll let it stand on it's own merits.
