Hose Clamps

Looking into tracking down some original tower-style hose clamps. There seems to be many sizes available (no doubt manufactured for numerous other makes/models), but as these aren't cheap, don't want to get the wrong ones. Is the clamp size specified to suit the hose that they secure, or the maximum opening size of the clamp?
Anyone know the size for heater hoses (I believe there are 2 sizes) and upper and lower radiator hoses for a 1969 small block? (Not putting smog back on).
As far as I can tell, Wittek clamps were dated by quarter, so there would only be 4 date codes per calendar year.
Thanks for any help!

Tim, you might email or call Bill Mock. He is an old Corvette judge from Oklahoma that rebuilds water pumps and has a lot of the old clamps. I just bought  several from him for my 69 Z and my 66 Chevelle SS big block car. He seems to really know his stuff and has been collecting them for years.

I am pretty sure the heater hose sizes are 1" 1/16, and 1 3/16. Yes you are correct they were dated by quarter. ex 1/68, 2/68/ 3/68, by WITTEK. The originals still seem superior to reproductions. The repo ones, can bend and tilt the tower pretty easily.

Bill Mock is a good source, he had a couple clamps for me a while back. I am not sure on 68 clamps what he has though.

Same here.  It helps to hold the "tower" portion of the clamp with a set of pliers but the hardest part is keeping the screw to stay centered and not walking out of the little pocket.

Mike thanks for the ebay link.  But those clamps do not look like the ones on the L78 car (bypass hose).  Is your 67 like these or ebay?

Sorry for the hijack.

Where I work the pictures are filtered out by our web monitor appliance. I'll check when I get home and let you know.

Thanks Mike

Mine are solid whereas the ebay ones have a slot in the center of the band.

Aren't those spring clips for 68 (and maybe earlier)?

Somewhat related. :)
I found this Wittek ad (8.5x11) at a swap meet. They are wearing the clamps as jewelry, harder to see since I downsized the pic a little.
No idea how they used this ad - just a tad racy for the times!

Believe this car had spring & tower on the heater hoses.  He (my father) always had trouble with the spring clamps leaking so he put worm style later on.  I am still searching for early pics of the engine compartment to verify.

Thanks for the tip Len, I ordered 4 wittek clamps from Bill Mock, 2 were nos from 1969.  I also purchased a rebuilt water pump from him.. I spent a lot of time on the phone with him.  Sounds like a great guy!

X3 I wound up throwing away half the ones that came in the kit for my 68.  You could not make them fit....

Hi Darrell,

The bypass hose on the '67 has the same ones in your picture. For the heater hose though mine has the Corbin style ring clamps on both ends of both hoses. The only clamps to use a tower is on the larger radiator hoses. And in the case of the '67 LOS with K19 AIR, that too uses the tower design clamp.
