[driving on the road today]

That's easy....coorect me if I'm wrong....According to statistics, Chevy made 20,302 Z-28's in 69...also made 37,773 Rally Sports...if we use percentage statistics...and assume that atleast 50% of all early camaros are now destroyed, that would make approx. 75,000 Rally Sport Z-28's driving on the road today...and atleast 25,000 are no. matching and have protecto-plate....

Thanks Jerry.....does either pad have a part number, markings, or stampings on the underside to show that its a GM pad?  The replacement I got has NOTHING but some sheet metal exposed in several areas that is a little rusted over. 

I know there is a place that restores 67-68 dashes, but they don't touch '69 stuff, correct?  The dash material I have is in excellent shape; its just curled above the glovebox and a little on the windshield-side.  It would be great if I could somehow glue it back int place, but I've got a feeling that just won't work.

I've read that some dash pad replacements had a smooth spot on them, some did not, and that most replacement pads really fit poorly.  The pad on my '69 is curled above the glovebox like many others, and I bought a replacement from someone selling an original GM dash removed to make a pro-touring car.  I got the dash, and it certainly does look old, but it also looks very different than the dash on my car, which I assume is probably original to the car.

My dash is fairly grainy with the material used, and the "stitching" around the top edge and perimeter of the dash shows excellent detail.  The dash I got is not quite as grainy on the material,  and doesn' show the extreme detail of the one in the car.  It still shows the stitching, but not as clearly.

There are no part numbers, markings or anything on the replacement I got, and I haven't removed the dash in the car to see if it indeed has any GM stickers or anything on it.

I had a 1992 GMC Typhoon I named Christine.  I blew it up twice, caught it on fire once and everytime I tried to work on it, I came away bloody.  It really did have attitude.

Any further info on the unearthing?  I searched quickly but didn't see anything!!!!  That's awesome!!!

I would be very wary of pink rods from eBay.  Back in the day, they were marked with a small dab of pink paint, kidn of like using a nail polish brush to dab it on.  The ones I've seen on eBay have the whole beam of the rod smeared with pink!  With the price of parts like that today, I'd just get some new rods from Summit that are known 100% and run them.

Wow...I'm glad you're okay.  Tire accidents can be very nasty!  I've only seen a tire that blew a belt; it makes one of those big bubbles, like you see on the crust of pizza sometimes!!  Get those suckers changed over!!!!

Jerry....how long ago are we talking on the cams that wiped out?  Was this many moons ago, or fairly recently?  I've got a crane in my DZ, done 2 years ago.

i drive my 69 every single day.I have drove it every day since the day i brought it.  I live  30 minutes from work and its just a long winding road though woods and city. There is this great spot right by the river. To be honesty, i can't stand to drive anything else. Its completely stock but there is just something about that loud roar of a V8 and the feel of vinly. There is no better way to start and end the day.

I've driven mine every day I could this summer.  As a "side job" I part out cars, so if I sell something for $20 or $100, the cash goes straight into the glovebox of the Z for gas money, so I don't worry about the price of gas.

A) Driving season in Vermont is only a few months, so you've got to make hay when the sun's shining!
B) For as much as I pay a month, you bet your a$$ I'm going to drive it!
C) I absolutely LOVE being behind the wheel.  As Mikey said....getting back in DD is just boring, and sad.

I'm looking at picking up a set of manifolds with smog holes for my 1969 Z/28 (3946826 RH, 3942527 LH).  Dates on the manifolds aren't critical for me (10C '68 car), but I've seen sets on eBay being sold as GM licensed reproduction parts for around $300/set new. (link below)  Both manifolds have the same date.  I'm wondering if anybody has purchased these manifolds, and could tell me if they are really decent parts, or if they are cheap foreign junk.  As much as I love my headers, I'd like to begin piecing my engine bay back to stock dress.  Thank you all.....

Casting date K107 = December 10, 1967.  Probably a 1968 model car.  0408G1 E = April 8, Detroit, First Shift, Eaton Posi unit.  BW for '66-67 meant 3.31's.  BW for '68'69 meant 4.56's.  Most likely you've got a 1968 4.56 posi 12-bolt.

Obviously a Van Nuys car.    My car is a mere 42 cars away at 521696, but I have a J18 casting date and VI009DZ assembly on a 10C '68 car.
