i hear this alot but what are pink or O rods? what engines used them? I was wondering because there is a set on ebay and the only marking they show are O on the rod caps. They look just like a set of rods that came in 327 Im building. the engine came out of 69 impala orignnally.

camaromikey

where they ever used in a 327?

I would be very wary of pink rods from eBay.  Back in the day, they were marked with a small dab of pink paint, kidn of like using a nail polish brush to dab it on.  The ones I've seen on eBay have the whole beam of the rod smeared with pink!  With the price of parts like that today, I'd just get some new rods from Summit that are known 100% and run them.

i believe the only diff between pink rods and others is shot peening process, any competent machine shop can upgrade your rods to same specs, dont forget to mag them and install new bolts.

i had mine check but i was just wondering if they shot peened the rods they used in a 327 or used a pink rod in them.

Only the 302s got the good rods, and the difference was shot peening, magged and stronger rod bolts.  They also have babbot in the small end of the rod for the floating wrist pins.  I have a set of original 69 pink rods that I'm putting on Ebay to see if they do stupid money.

I was told many years ago that pink rods were no different,  they were the rods from the production stage that were dabbed pink to mark them for quality control. They were pulled from the line at random and checked for accuracy. This may all be bull but I believed it???????

is there any difference between the rods of a large journal 327 and a 350.

camaromikey

what are the indentifying marks to tell if its a regular rod or a pink rod

Jerry@CHP

Half of the rod is fadded pink in color, traces of shot peening too.  Towards the small end and there are traces of babbot in the small end hole for the floating wrist pin.  Many have the Os on the cap but I have also seen them without the Os.

Yes, '67 and '68 Z/28s had pressed piston pins.

so is it possible for a 69 327 out of an impala to have "pink" rods?

Not from the factory.
